Abstract

Network of five functional drilled wells used for water supply in various parts of the Lagos metropolis were monitored for physical, chemical and biological characteristics. Field and laboratory analyses involve the use of standard scientific procedures. The study reveals a changing ground water chemistry including pH. Two ground water types are present. These waters namely, bicarbonate and chloride waters are mixed, resulting in mild water contamination in some of the drilled wells. Some water points possess high iron content. Therefore, aeration, filtration and chlorination are recommended as means of treatment. On the other hand, some water points meet WHO standard for potable water. No bacterial growth is observed in all ground waters studied.
